Robert Parker's Reviews for Fall 2008 Release

“Another impressive group of Chardonnays from Steve Kistler, these 2006s are unmistakenly Burgundian in their aromatics, textures, and flavor profiles.  Kistler has given up on the highly fashionable Dijon clones, relying on old California clones, primarily old Wente selections.”

2006 Durell Vineyard Chardonnay – 94-96

“Always dominated by crushed rock and a liquid minerality component, it also possesses notes of lemon oil, brioche, white currants, white peaches, and a lemon custard-like character.  Full-bodied with beautiful subtlety, zesty acidity, and a long finish, it can be enjoyed over the next 5-7 years.”

2006 McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay – 93-94

“The 2006 Chardonnay McCrea Vineyard exhibits a light gold/green hue along with aromas of stone fruits, honey, orange zest (or is it tangerine?), and subtle wood spices.  Full-bodied with beautiful texture as well as purity, and a long finish, it should drink well for 5-7 years.”

2006 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay – 92-94

“The 2006 Chardonnay Dutton Ranch is structured and tannic, with more acidity, and a leaner, more backward personality with a chalky character.  White currant, hazelnut, and wood spice notes are present in this medium to full-bodied white.”

Comments about Kistler Vineyards

The World's Greatest Wine Estates

Kistler Vineyards was recently featured in The World's Greatest Wine Estates: A Modern Perspective by Robert M. Parker, Jr. From the book's website:

“THE GREAT WINE ESTATES is a book about artists, craftspeople, revolutionaries, and traditionalists who have one overwhelming trait in common -- they are irrefutably dedicated to the pursuit of excellence, and it is their heart, souls, and enormous talents that are reflected in wines of singular personality and achievement … They have taken a commonplace beverage and transformed it into art. The book is the culmination of 26 years of work, and represents the essence of my wine education and experience.”
